Child Care Health Consultant
In Duplin County, the Child Care Health Consultant (CCHC) position is held by a Registered Nurse who has completed 122 hours of specialized training. This additional training focuses on safety, health and nutrition in the child care setting. The CCHC serves as a reference for all licensed child care facilities in our county. In addition to addressing immediate health and safety issues, the CCHC can assist with the development of policies covering a variety of topics such as exclusion of sick children, medication administration, emergency preparedness and different sanitation issues. The Division of Child Development (DCD) requires that all children who attend child care remain current with their immunizations. Periodic review of shot records by the CCHC is a valuable service for the child care providers so that they may remain in compliance with the DCD rule. Currently the CCHC is offering 12 different continuing education classes for providers and other who choose to attend. These classes are approved by the DCD and are a convenient way for child care providers to obtain their continuing education requirements. For more information about the CCHC program, please call 910-296-2131 and ask for the Child Care Health Consultant.
