Duplin County offers health insurance benefits to all full-time employees. Employees hired prior to July 1, 2012 are on the North Carolina Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBSNC) PPO plan.  Employees hired July 1, 2012 and thereafter are offered a BCBSNC Health Savings Plan (HSA) or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) with an annual county contribution towards qualified medical expenses.  BCBSNC can be accessed at www.bcbsnc.com or by phone at 1-877-275-9787. 

Supplemental Benefits
Duplin County offers employees several supplemental benefits such as disability, cancer, eye care, accident and life insurance policies at the employee’s cost.  The county provides payroll deduction for premiums incurred from these plans. Information and costs can mostly be found in the annual Employee Benefits Handbook, a copy of this year’s handbook is available for review under the Benefit’s Library below.

Local Government Retirement

All part-time employees working 20 hours or more per week and full time employees are automatically enrolled into the NC Local Government Retirement System. The employee contributes 6% of gross wages to the retirement account. The County contributes based on guidelines set by the retirement system. Both retirement plans offer an additional way for employees to prepare for retirement and a more secure future.  Under both plans wages are payroll deducted pre-tax and deposited into the investment account. Many investment choices are offered and loans are available. 

Local Government Credit Union Membership

As a county employee you are eligible to join the NC Local Government/State Employees Credit Union. The credit union provides a variety of services such as checking accounts, savings, low interest loans and investment options. Sick Leave
County employees may accumulate sick leave indefinitely. All vacation time in excess of 240 hours is transferred to sick leave balances. The county provides 3.7 leave per pay period (12 days per year) to each full time eligible employee.
