The Animal Control Department is responsible for the management of dogs, cats or other animals throughout Duplin County (approximately 819 square miles) that are unwanted or pose a possible threat. Currently, the Animal Control Department employs two animal control officers that are available during the day and are on call seven days a week, 24 hours a day, and one clerk available during office hours.

Other duties of this department include:
  • Monitoring Rabies Control Laws
  • Investigating Possible Rabid Animals, Dangerous Dogs, or Vicious Animals
  • Animal Cruelty Investigations

The Animal Control Department is responsible for maintaining and operating the animal control facility. The Animal Control Officers are dispatched to all dog and cat bites. The employees also assist veterinarians with rabies clinics.
