Duplin County Library prides itself in being the "very best place to start" for its citizens and patrons to find information, recreational and educational reading materials, and a resource for photocopying, laminating, state and federal tax forms and reference and other services. The public library system in Duplin County is a system of libraries with the headquarters located in Kenansville, the county seat. The branch libraries are located in Beulaville, Faison, Magnolia, Rose Hill and Warsaw.
The Duplin County Law Library, located in the Courthouse is also administered by the public library. Each of the six public libraries is fully automated and provides free public access to computers and the Internet. 74,643 plus total items and 41,024 plus total titles represent the collection size of the system. The library system boasts a substantial audio collection of more than 1,900 tapes and compact disk books.
In 2000, the library system automated its circulation system and it has provided remote access to the system's database for library patrons via the county's web site. Patrons can now check their accounts 24/7 and place materials "on hold" from work or home. Additional services of the libraries' include programming for pre-school children and those who attend daycare and centers in Duplin. These programs are scheduled four times throughout each year with additional special event programs to give children the opportunity to discover reading and the rich treasures available for them at the public library. Another program sponsored by the library is the Quiz Bowl competition held annually for the public high schools in the county.
The public library system is a full-service library providing access, information and connections to all libraries via Interlibrary Loan services, NC-LIVE and the SMARTSQUAD. Duplin County and a State Aid to Public Libraries grant from the North Carolina General Assembly fund the library system.
