Smoke Free Challenge

May is Asthma Awareness Month.  Asthma has reached epidemic proportions in the United States. In an effort to raise awareness of the risks faced everyday by 20 million Americans living with asthma, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Duplin County Health Department and Duplin General Hospital invite you to participate in the 2006 County Smoke Free Challenge.  Did you know that Duplin County currently has 1,164 pediatric asthma cases and 2,878 adult asthma cases?

The Smoke Free Challenge encourages you to be smoke free in your home and car. The Smoke-Free pledge ends on May 31st, so please get your pledges in today. You may take the pledge and obtain smoke-free home kits by visiting EPA's Web site www.epa.gov/smokefree , or 1-866-SMOKE-FREE.

Also, if you are ready to quit smoking, a FREE 1-Day American Lung Association's Freedom from Smoking Workshop will be held on May 16th from 3:15 - 4:30, held at Duplin General in Conference room B.  This will provide you with the resources needed to successfully quit smoking. For more information or to register by Monday May 15th, please contact Lisa or Amy.
