Muscadine Festival Commemorative Painting Unveiled

The second Muscadine Harvest Festival commemorative painting was unveiled last week. Artist Thomas Bennett and Ed Emory, Muscadine Harvest Festival committee member, unveiled the painting. Bennett, noted local artist, once again created the original artwork for the festival. Bennett, artist-in-residence at the N. C. Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, created this year's artwork titled, "Raising Cranes", from research into the Sir Walter Raleigh's arrival at the Outer Banks. Raleigh's writings noted that the area was" ...so full of grapes, as the very beating and surge or the sea overflowed them...a flock of Cranes arose under as..." The Festival will be held on September 29th - 30th in Kenansville at the events center and the commemorative painting will be auctioned at the opening gala on Friday night, September 29th.
