Marriage Records

The Duplin County Register of Deeds Office has a record of all marriage licenses that have been issued in Duplin County since 1868. In that year, a new North Carolina Constitution transferred the duty of recording marriages from the Clerk of Court to the Register of Deeds and also required a license to be issued instead of a bond. While there is a record of all the marriages licenses that have been issued since 1868, numerous original marriage certificates issued prior to 1902 are missing.

North Carolina Law only allows Certified Marriage Certificates to be issued to the following:

  • Child or Step-child
  • Grandchild
  • Your parent
  • Grandparent
  • Those seeking information for legal determination of personal or property rights
  • Authorized agent, attorney, or legal representative of the person who's certificate is being requested
