Health Promotion Evidence Base Classes

Certified Lay Leaders is trained to teach approved evidence base classes for seniors at the senior center and in the community. (Arthritis Exercise – land base, Living Healthy with Chronic Conditions, Living Healthy with Diabetes, Matter of Balance, Powerful Tools for Caregivers, and BINGOCIZE).

Neuse River Senior Games

Duplin County seniors (50 years of age and older) participate in the Neuse River Senior Games held each year in the New Bern area. Athletic participants compete in age brackets at the local, state, and national levels. Categories are based on age and gender, with men and women competitions. Silver Arts is available for those participants that are interested in heritage arts, literary arts, performing arts, and visual arts.

Senior Health Insurance Information Program

The SHIIP Coordinator along with volunteers answer questions and counsels Medicare beneficiaries and caregivers about Medicare, Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, Medicare prescription drug plans, long-term care insurance and other health insurance concerns. Presentations are provided in the community specific to outreach efforts concerning low-income subsidy and Medicare 101 classes.
