GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
Under general supervision of the Facilities Coordinator, the purpose of the position is to maintain County grounds, and equipment. Employees in this classification perform semi-skilled work. Position is responsible for performing lawn maintenance, including mowing, raking, trimming shrubs, and fertilizing; and performing general cleaning and light maintenance. Performs related work as required.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Mows grass; trims, mulches, and fertilizes trees and shrubbery; rakes leaves; mows path through tall grass, as needed.
Cleans, repairs, and services all equipment used in grounds maintenance such as mowers, tractors, trailers, variety of hand power tools, etc.
Plants and trims lawns, trees, bushes, flowers, hedges and shrubs using hand or motorized tools.
Landscapes new ground areas, repairs damaged ground areas, replaces bushes, hedges, shrubs, flowers and trees.
Applies pesticides as needed and directed by supervisor
Assist in minor carpentry work and electrical maintenance and repairs.
Recommends supplies for all aspects of grounds keeping, e.g. equipment parts, blades, pesticides, flowers, bushes, trees, etc.
Cleans grounds and picks up garbage from various County offices; cleans windows; recaulks windows and doors; changes light bulbs.
Drives vehicles such as a truck or van to pick up workers, supplies and materials.
Assists in moving and setting up furniture, equipment, and voting machines; moves boxes of paper and supplies.
Performs related duties as required.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by one (1) to two (2) years previous experience and/or training involving building and landscape maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to grounds keeping and maintenance work.
Knowledge of the proper use of chemicals, fertilizers and pesticides.
Knowledge of cultivation, weed control, seeding, and planting of trees, bushes, flowers, etc.
Ability to use hand tools, including electronic equipment, and operate motorized equipment and vehicles such as trucks, vans, tractors, mowers, etc.
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions with excessive dust or dirt.
Possession of a Pesticide Operator’s license issued by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.
Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina.
