Originally founded around 1890 as Goshen Grove, Calypso became a hub of farm families and local farm produce. Cotton, potatoes, tobacco and farm produce found their way to the Calypso Depot where they were shipped throughout the eastern United States via the rail system.

Education has also been the heart of the local community. Calypso received its first school in 1908 and is now within the North Duplin School District which has received superior ratings across the board for its end of grade testing. Community support for the local school system, school athletics, and recreational leagues are found in the hearts of the local citizens.

Conveniently located near Wilmington, Raleigh, Goldsboro, Fayetteville, Jacksonville and Greensville, Calypso is a great place to begin a small business, raise a family or find the joy of a small town feeling.

The population was 538 at the 2010 census
