GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
The primary purpose of this position is to provide medical transportation assistance to clients who are receiving Medicaid. This position is responsible for taking applications and conducting reviews on cases in their workload at each Medicaid review period.
This position is responsible for arranging transportation through the Duplin County Transportation Department vans or by providing gas for medical appointments and must contact medical providers to determine if out-of-county travel is necessary.

This position is responsible for maintaining a Medicaid Transportation caseload.
This caseload consists of recipients for whom the caseworker is responsible for taking applications, completing re-determinations, and arranging medical transportation to clients who are receiving Medicaid. This requires contacting the recipients to verify initial eligibility, and annually or other certification periods assigned to conduct re-determination for families.
Establishing & re-determining eligibility requires that the caseworker engage the clients thru various means including face to face, by phone and by mail.
Caseworker must collect data pertinent to the verification of eligibility and assess the information received as well as the family situation.
This position must constantly evaluate the case situation sand information presented to ensure the benefits are delivered in a timely, accurate, courteous, caring and confidential manner.
This position requires frequent telephone contact with eligible clients that are requesting transportation services; all of which must be logged.
This position is also responsible for arranging transportation through the Duplin County Transportation Department vans or by providing gas for medical appointments and must contact medical providers to determine if out-of-county travel is necessary.
The worker must verify that clients are currently receiving Medicaid. They also must verify that every recipient received a Medicaid covered service on the date they were authorized for each trip. Medicaid Transportation requests and approvals must be keyed into the Medicaid Transportation computer system daily.
This position attends regional and agency meetings on policy and other areas.
This position may be assigned other duties and work in other areas or programs as needed. Also, in the event of a natural or man-made disaster, this position may be assigned duties related to the opening of shelters for displace or special needs person.
While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essentialpart of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.
Performs general filing.
Assists other unit workers when time permits. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM TRAININGAND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Paralegal Technology, Business Administration , Secretarial Science, or a closely related curriculum; or graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling of data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program; or graduation from high school and three years of paraprofessional , clerical or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, the gathering and compiling of data, the analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills. Ability to communicate with clients, applicants, and the public to obtain data, and to explain and interpret rules, policies, and procedures. Ability to understand the needs and problems of clients/applicants. Ability to learn the program area of assignment and all agency programs and services which could affect the client/applicant.
