GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to perform a wide variety of accounting functions related to the financial management and operations of the water systems.  Employee in this position is responsible for receiving payments; balancing collections; processing applications; and providing information about the water system.  Also, performs related work as required.

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Collects water payments and deposits; posts to accounts; prepares deposits of funds collected and delivers to the bank; runs daily computerized reports on collections.

Prepares and disseminates information as required to the general public; collects and relays information from customers, co-workers, and other departments via the telephone, two-way radio, and in person.

Talks with prospective customers; signs up new customers after determining cost; prepares agreement form and customer file information; answers questions about the water system to individuals and to citizen groups; processes applications for new districts and bills for early sign-up fees.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

Runs meter reading books.

Picks up mail; mails applications on new districts; prints bill; makes photocopies.

Process bills for payments at finance office, process request to purchase supplies and inventory and enter inventory issued and purchases to system.

Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED;  supplemented by three (3) to five (5) years previous experience and/or training that includes accounting and billing computer software and clerical work;  or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be bondable.  Pre-employment and random drug testing required.
