Accounting Specialist II – (Finance)

SALARY: Grade 61                             Starting Salary:  $19.4058 Hourly/ $40,363.96 Annually

Job Summary

Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to assist the Finance Officer in planning, maintaining and accounting for County revenue. Employees in this classification perform specialized accounting, data processing, and fiscal control work. Performs related work as required.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Assists with the maintenance of county general insurance and property insurance which includes filing for claims, addition of new property, and allocation of premium to departments by journal entry.

Reconciles and posts transactions to bank and trust accounts

Posts daily electronic deposits.

Creates and assists with year-end preparation of audit entries and schedules.

Monitors and reconciles central depository daily to ensure all transactions are posted.

Creates journal entries and balances a variety of accounts; prepares and prints a variety of reports in accordance with General Statutes governing County Finance Officers.

Establishes and maintains productive and positive working relationships with co-workers, commissioners, supervisors, departments, citizens and outside vendors and agencies. 

Monitors grants receipts and disbursements and creates, gathers and maintains all related documentation.

Serves as backup to the Accounts Payable Specialist, including assisting with p-card program, batch proofing, and check processing as needed.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS

While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members.

Assists other staff members in performing tasks.

Provide back up to the administrative office reception desk.

Develops and/or assists with developing financial spreadsheets for internal use or external use by other County departments. Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or closely related field; supplemented by one (1) to two (2) years previous experience and/or training that includes governmental financial accounting; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

All employees should possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
