Working with public and private sectors involving local, state, and federal partners, Duplin County Fire & Emergency Management seeks to provide a customer service focused program for all of the citizens and visitors of Duplin County.

Duplin County Fire & Emergency Management manages and serves the 25 fire departments that provide service to districts inside Duplin County. Working to help these fire departments to reduce their insurance ratings, allows the department to provide better service and to reduce homeowners’ insurance premiums. Duplin County Fire & Emergency Management serves as a working component of the Duplin County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). The Duplin County LEPC serves to protect and inform the public on regulations and reporting of organizations that handle hazardous materials. To see more about this group please click the link above.
Brittany Malone – Administrative Support Specialist
Brittany assists with administrative coordination, billing, and scheduling of daily services and tasks. Brittany is the point of contact for internal and external customers for assistance in reaching the appropriate service, information gathering, permits, payment and billing requests, and routing service-specific requests to the appropriate employee.
Brian Matthis – Emergency Management Planner/Fire Investigator
Brian is responsible for the daily operation and coordination of Emergency Management activities. Brian is responsible for emergency planning and preparedness review for internal and external customers, along with drills and exercise coordination that evaluate and train first-responders. Brian is also responsible for the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, Hazardous Materials Planning and Response, the Local Emergency Planning Committee, and Tier II reporting.
Michael Mahoney – Deputy Fire Marshal
Michael is responsible for the recurring Fire Prevention Inspections program. Michael performs daily fire prevention inspections, assists fire departments in scheduling and coordination of planned events, and public fire prevention and education, including Child Passenger Safety Seat program.
Matthew Barwick – Emergency Management Director/Fire Marshal
Matthew is responsible for the administration, coordination, and direction of the Emergency Management, Fire Marshal, and 911 Communications Departments. Matthew is the point-of-contact for all permits and inspections involving new construction and renovations, including plan-review.
