The County Attorney is appointed by the Board of County Commissioners to serve as its legal adviser. The County Attorney provides in-house legal counsel and representation to the Board of County Commissioners, County Manager, County Departments, County Enterprise Accounts and County appointed Boards and Commissions. The Attorney ensures that County activities conform to constitutional and statutory requirements. This department prepares all ordinances and resolutions adopted by the Board of County Commissioners in addition to legislation proposed by the Board for enactment by the General Assembly.
General Services Provided:
The Attorney Office is responsible for drafting, review, interpretation and preparation of all County legal documents. It also represents the County in all civil litigation, reviews and enforces County ordinances. The Department also represents the county in all Department of Social Services matters and tax foreclosures.
This office administers the execution process of all County contracts and bonds. Other duties include initiating bankruptcy, estate and litigation claims on behalf of county departments, establishing collection policies and procedures for various county departments, and preparing legal documents for construction and service projects.
